Your PDF never leaves your device. All processing — reading, decrypting, modifying, and saving — happens locally in your browser. You can verify this yourself in your browser's Network tab in DevTools: you'll see zero file upload requests.
What's the difference between user password and owner password? +
A user password (open password) is required to open the PDF — requires the exact password. An owner password sets restrictions (print, copy, edit) but the file can still be opened — these restrictions can often be removed without knowing the password. Our tool handles both types.
What if I enter the wrong password? +
If you enter an incorrect password, the tool immediately shows an error. Nothing is downloaded. You can try again. Common mistakes: check CAPS LOCK, spaces, try variations with your name, company, or year.
Can I unlock PDFs with restrictions but no open password? +
